Botswana moved closer to its first ever appearance at the African Cup of Nations with a 2-1 victory over Togo on Saturday in the 2012 tournament qualifiers. Jerome Ramatlhakwane scored the winner in the 55th minute, just five minutes after an equalizer from Togo’s Serge Fiakpe. Winger Joel Mogorosi had put Botswana ahead in the fifth minute at the University of Botswana stadium.

Brazilian striker Bruno Cazarine has signed a one-year contract with the defending A-League champion Sydney FC. The club said Tuesday that, pending visa approval, Cazarine could play in Saturday’s match against Adelaide at Sydney Football Stadium. Cazarine, 27, has spent the past two years playing in the Brazilian second division.

Hugo Rodallega scored late in Wigan’s 1-0 win at Tottenham on Saturday in a setback to Spurs’ bid to finish in the top four of the Premier League for a second consecutive season. Two days after being drawn to meet defending Champions League winner Inter Milan in Europe, Spurs lost to a team that had been beaten 4-0 by promoted Blackpool and 6-0 to Chelsea in its opening two home games.

Blackpool had to settle for a 2-2 draw with Fulham in its first home game in the English topflight since 1971 after Dickson Etuhu struck a superb late equalizer on Saturday for the London side. Bobby Zamora had put Fulham ahead in the 35th minute, only for an own goal by John Pantsil to bring the teams level in the 71st.

Tottenham will host fierce rival Arsenal in the pick of the third-round matches in England’s League Cup.
